For me, being a riding instructor isn't just about telling riders what to do, it's about making an impact on the world, and leaving behind a legacy, especially for my equine family, friends and the clients I serve.

Module 1
Mindful Practice
In order to connect more deeply with our equine partners, we first need a deeper connection with ourselves. Two of my favorite tools to develop this greater sense of self are Body Mapping and Breath Awareness.
Body Mapping (aka “Scanning”) involves consciously sensing your contact with the floor
Breath Awareness provides you with a way to evaluate “ease”
One way to cultivate better awareness of yourself, your movement, and even your horse is to incorporate the practices you’ll learn in this Module into your everyday activities. This will put you on the path towards becoming a more responsive, empathetic, and effective rider.
Module 2
Key to a Balanced Seat
Proper function of the pelvis and lower back are the secrets to a deep, secure seat. Establishing a solid base of support starts with greater awareness of your movement in these two key areas.
I’ll be adding my own ‘rider’ spin to the classic Feldenkrais Pelvic Clock lessons because I’ve found that greater mobility in the pelvis resolves asymmetries and establishes a level seat.
More even weight distribution decreases the pressure on your horse’s back and unifies your seat with the horse’s movement.
Module 3
Go with the Flow
Deeply ingrained habits from lessons taken long ago can impede progress toward harmony with your horse today.
The demand for “heels down” often creates bracing, tension, rigidity, and ineffective leg aids while also making the rider more unstable.
The classical position of “ear, shoulder, hip, and ankle” aligns the rider in gravity and allows the joints of hip, knee, and ankle to move with the horse. In this module, you’ll discover a novel way to address deep-seated habits of the legs and feet.
Module 4
Aligning with Ease
If there’s one thing I always say, it’s: “Gravity is not discipline-specific!” No matter the breed of your horse, the discipline you ride, or your style of equipment, gravity is the one thing you cannot avoid on this earth.
As riders, we need to align with gravity to minimize any negative effects on both us and our horses.
In this module, we’ll build on Module 3 to show you how you can use gravity to your advantage.
Module 5
The Key to Great Contact
The key to communicating with your horse lies in achieving “great contact.” But typical instruction puts the rider at odds with that goal!
Holding the shoulders stiff and tight makes the contact harsh and unpleasant for your horse. But the opposite, a slumpy upper body with heavy hands, is equally harsh.This binary choice (rigid or slumped) creates conflict between horse and rider.
In this module, you’ll learn how to have great contact with your horse without tension by discovering more options for the ‘all or nothing’ approach.
Module 6
Follow the Movement
For movement between partners to be fluid and elegant, it needs to be coordinated. However, too much physical effort blocks the flow, making movements stilted and edgy.
In order to glide from one point of balance to another with your horse, you must learn to let go of anything that interferes with the intended action, then simplify and refine each movement.
In this module, you’ll explore the unintended consequences of unnecessary physical exertion that creates conflict with your horse’s movement and ultimately your riding goals.
Module 7
Presenting Confidence
Confidence is an outward expression of inner knowing. Each week during this course, you’ll continue to grow, explore new ideas, and discover possibilities.
Through practice, encouragement, and support, you’ll become more secure in your ability as a horsewoman to make good decisions for both you and your horse.
This continued growth and deeper insight will be expressed through your upper body, which begins to glide over the top of your horse’s movements.
Module 8
Youthful, Easy Movement
While you would love to spend every hour on a horse, that's not realistic. Life’s daily activities have a way of getting in the way of our riding time.
Rather than think of it as time wasted, take advantage of the opportunity to find greater ease in all you do.
Clearly defining movement at the hips, rather than the waist, makes many chores easier not to mention walking with a greater stride and sense of purpose. Daily activities become interesting when you change the focus from “ugh” to “how?”
